For a long time, industrial mercury UV bulbs have just been the way things are done for curing and disinfection. But here’s the problem: most plants just set these lamps on a timer and hope for the best. They swap them out based on a calendar, regardless of whether the bulb is actually doing its job or just wasting electricity. We think there’s a better way. We’re putting remote energy monitoring right into the UV lamp setup.
How it actually works
Standard mercury lamps need a stable arc discharge to put out that UVC light. To keep tabs on that, we’ve added current sensors and IoT controllers to the ballast. Basically, we’re tracking the power draw in real-time. Instead of crossing your fingers and hoping the lamp is still strong, you can see exactly when the output starts to drift. You don’t have to guess when a bulb is dying. You just watch the wattage. When the energy profile shifts, you know it’s time for a swap. Simple as that.
The honest trade-offs
Look, adding extra hardware means the initial cost is a bit higher. It also means there’s one more thing in the electrical chain that could potentially break. But that’s a trade-off I’m willing to make to avoid the nightmare of unplanned downtime. We built these to be drop-in replacements for the arrays you already have. You wire it into your local network, and the data just starts flowing to your dashboard. No huge overhaul required.

Walking around doing manual inspections is a slog. It’s a waste of your team’s time. With remote monitoring, you can see how every single lamp on your production line is doing from one screen. You’ll spot the ones burning out too fast. And if one zone is pulling way more current than the others? You’ve probably got a voltage leak or a ballast that’s about to give up.
