Standard mercury lamps are great, but they don’t always cut it. If you’re dealing with thick-film curing or those stubborn, deep-penetration adhesives, you’ve probably noticed the light just doesn’t reach where it needs to. That’s where Gallium Iodide (GaI) comes in. We build these lamps to push the emission further into the UV-A and visible range, getting the light deeper into your materials. The balancing act: Power vs. Heat Here’s the thing about the physics here: you want that deep penetration, but you have to watch the heat. When we’re figuring out your specs, we look closely at the wattage and the tube diameter. Sure, cranking up the wattage gives you more photon flux, but it also makes the lamp run hotter. If your housing doesn’t have enough airflow, you’re asking for trouble. Too much heat, and your electrodes will burn out way sooner than they should. Making it fit your gear We use high-purity fused quartz because we want as much UV light as possible to actually get out of the tube. But for our OEM partners, the “how it fits” part is just as important as the light itself. We can tweak the end-cap geometry or swap out the pin configurations. The goal is to make sure the lamp is a simple drop-in replacement for what you’re already using. No hacking, no rigging—just a perfect fit. Plus, we can adjust the gallium concentration to match your specific photoinitiator. The trade-off you should know about I want to be honest about one thing: when you tune the spectrum, you usually give up a bit of total radiant flux. By adding more gallium to hit that specific wavelength, you might see a slight dip in overall UV intensity compared to a basic mercury lamp.
